Serena Williams Speaks Out Against Domestic Violence For Her Daughter, & It’s Deeply Moving

I doubt anyone out there has ever accused Serena Williams of not speaking her mind. The tennis queen has a history of calling out b.s. whenever she sees it, which has made her a huge inspiration to women on and off the court around the world. But it seems she has her own inspiration helping to guide her these days; her little girl. Serena Williams is speaking out against domestic violence because of her daughter Olympia, she told People in a recent interview, and it’s deeply touching.

Williams has decided to team up with Allstate’s Purple Purse Foundation, an organization first founded in 2005 to help women caught in domestic and financial violence situations. As the mother of 9-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. with husband Alexis Ohanian Sr., Williams has become even more aware of speaking up for survivors of domestic violence. Especially once she became aware of the sobering numbers; Allstate reports that one out of every four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and nearly all of those instances will include some form of financial abuse as well. As Williams noted in her interview with People; "Having a daughter means that she’s one in four. Hopefully those stats don’t go up by the time she’s dating and meeting people, but they can if you don’t make people aware of it."

Which is exactly why she wanted to get involved with the Purple Purse Initiative in the first place. She realized that she didn’t know much about the issue of domestic violence, and wanted to do her part to help end the stigma around discussing it, as she told People:

[Domestic abuse] is a subject that people are not really comfortable talking about, but sometimes talking about the uncomfortable is what we have to do. We’re doing that now with Me Too, with Times Up, and I feel like we’re making those steps. We want to make this a movement.

This isn’t the first time Williams has spoken up about a difficult subject; she’s been on the forefront of talking about the gender pay gap, maternal health care for black women in particular, and struggling with postpartum depression to name just a few. After giving birth to Olympia last September, Williams told Harper’s Bazaar UK that she was surprised at how emotional she suddenly found herself getting as a new mom:

Honestly, sometimes I think I still have to deal with it. I think people have to talk about it more because it’s almost like the fourth trimester, it’s part of the pregnancy. I remember one day, I couldn’t find Olympia’s bottle and I got so upset I started crying … because I wanted to be perfect for her.

That’s the thing about Serena Williams; she’s not just fierce on the tennis court, she also takes great pride in being fiercely honest and invested. Which is great news for the Purple Purse Foundation, since she has signed on to be the new ambassador. And it’s such a worthwhile cause, especially considering how difficult it is for women to climb out from under financial abuse, the most common form of abuse that sees victims denied access to financial resources like bank accounts and job opportunities. And Williams wants to make sure everyone is talking about this issue, including men, as she told Yahoo Lifestyle:

I think the key word is men. Getting both men and women talking about it. We need the support of the men so they aren’t becoming abusers. Women as well … to know that when they are abused, [there are] ways they can overcome it and get out of it.

One thing we know about Serena Williams; when she sets her mind to something, s**t gets done. And that’s great news for survivors.

These Pics From Kit Harrington’s Wedding Are Everything A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Fan Could Ever Want

I was a big fan of the royal wedding between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, don’t get me wrong. But here’s the reality… there was one royal wedding that I’ve been secretly waiting to happen. And on Saturday, it finally came to pass. These pics from Kit Harrington’s wedding to Rose Leslie are basically straight out of a Game of Thrones set, and I really don’t need to do another thing for the rest of the day other than scroll through them. Please join me.

The actor also known as Jon Snow married his longtime girlfriend, actress Rose Leslie, who also played his girlfriend Ygritte on Game of Thrones. Their wedding took place at Aberdeenshire in Scotland, where Leslie’s father owns a literal castle, according to Harper’s Bazaar. So yes, you’re reading this right. Jon Snow and Ygritte just got married at a castle in Scotland because dreams do come true. The Times of Scotland reports that the castle in question, Wardhill Castle, has been in Leslie’s family for 900 years, back before she was just a wildling girl in love with a bastard member of the Night’s Watch, I guess. Just kidding. I know Game of Thrones isn’t real. I’m fine.

To be fair, I feel like Rose Leslie wants us all to make the Game of Thrones connection. Otherwise she wouldn’t have looked like a damn beautiful Medieval princess with flowers in her hair, getting walked down the aisle by her father in a kilt at the ceremony at Rayne Church in the Scottish village of Kirkton.

In fact, it seems that the couple, who initially got together in 2012 when they were playing love interests on Game of Thrones, are not shying away from the obvious references. According to Marie Claire, the couple reportedly used postage stamps with Jon Snow’s image on them for the wedding invitations. Oh, and an actual monk reportedly officiated; Father Chad Boulton, a hooded Benedictine monk from Ampleforth Abbey. His name is Chad, which I don’t tend to associate with monks a whole lot, but still.. if anyone was going to be able to pull off a Game of Thrones-themed wedding, these were the two people to do it.

I guess you know something, Jon Snow, and now there I’ve included the pun.

There’s also the fact that these two were able to invite cast members to their wedding. As Harrington said in a 2017 interview on The Jonathan Ross Show when talking about his upcoming nuptials:

I rang [the scheduling producer] up and I said, ‘I’m getting married and it’s your fault actually. I was like, ‘You need to factor in a Game of Thrones wedding by the way.’ They [the cast] have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down.

And so they came. Members of House Targaeryn, Stark, and even the cunning Tyrion Lannister were on hand. Which seemed gutsy, when one considers what happened at Rob Stark’s wedding (who was also there in a kilt and oh my God).

There were other famous folk on hand, including British actor Jack Donnelly and his wife, fellow actress Malin Ackerman. But the real stars were the newly married couple.

As Game of Thrones enters its very final season and some people out there are grappling with how to spend the rest of their life, it’s nice to see that some things from the show will carry on. I like to think if Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister walking around the castle of Ygrette’s father, drinking mead and brooding about how they are both outcasts.

This brings me joy.

This Canadian Politician Breastfed In Parliament, & Twitter Is Loving It

I am a Canadian person. I also breastfed all of my four sons. So excuse me while I make a huge, whopping deal about the Canadian politician breastfeeding in Parliament earlier this week. Because other than the fact that she is a politician with a considerable amount of power and such, we’re basically the same person.

For whatever reason, public breastfeeding remains a bit of an issue for some people in the world. Especially if it’s a women who is at work, apparently. Which is why it’s so important to see women of influence changing the conversation. Democratic Institutions Minister Karina Gould was in Ottawa at the House of Commons on Tuesday, which is the Canadian version of the House of Congress in the United States. It looked to be a pretty typical day at the House of Commons, with politicians vehemently raising their voices to get their point across during the Question period. Although this time around, there was one small difference. Gould sat in the background of an especially raucous moment, casually breastfeeding her son Oliver. And here is the best part of the video, which has already been shared by several news outlets; nobody in the video is remotely concerned with the fact that Gould is breastfeeding at work. They’re just going about their business while she goes about the business of feeding her baby.

When the video of Gould breastfeeding while simultaneously fulfilling her role as Democratic Institutions minister hit the internet, it went viral. The people of Twitter loved it, and with good reason because she’s clearly a badass. Women shared their support of Gould breastfeeding her baby and remembered all of the times they had breastfed in public as well. On account of it’s a normal thing to do, I hear.

As for Gould herself, she took to Twitter to point out that there was "no shame" in breastfeeding her 3-month-old son Oliver, because a "baby’s gotta eat." And for the record, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (who is also a self-described feminist) retweeted Gould’s words as a show of support.

Sadly, with every positive comment there appeared a negative counterpoint. People who were offended that someone would breastfeed their child in the workplace, and who saw it as a sign that our world no longer lacks decorum.

So here’s a little dose of reality for people who would prefer to keep the old status quo; women have decided we aren’t doing that thing anymore. You know, the old trope where you can either work or be with your baby, not both. We have decided that yes, we get to do both if that’s our choice. And the rest of the working world is just going to have to get used to it.

Another excellent case in point? Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, who just became only the second woman to govern a country to give birth while in office. She gave birth at the Aukland Hospital on Thursday after working late into her pregnancy, according to CNBC.

This is the new order of things; politicians breastfeeding while at work and being supported by everyone around them. Women governing entire countries and giving birth to babies. I get that people who liked things the way they were before, women hiding their breastfeeding in private and having to make constant difficult choices between their home life and their work life, might be freaked out by the change. But sorry, all of that sort of sucked. I like things better the way this way. Moms working with their babies in tow, able to feed and live and work without being constantly divided.

Sorry not sorry.

Chip & Joanna Gaines Welcome Their Fifth Child, & It’s Super Exciting

It’s finally happened, folks. After months of getting super excited about seeing Joanna Gaines’ ever-tasteful baby bump, the moment we’ve been waiting for is here. Chip and Joanna Gaines just welcomed their fifth child, and fans are obviously going to be pumped about the news. I mean, just thinking about what this baby’s nursery is going to look like is enough to get the old heart pumping, you know?

The design duo and adorable couple, who first came to be known to their adoring fans on their home improvement show on HGTV Fixer Uppers, are already the proud parents to four children; 8-year-old daughter Emmie Kay and 11-year-old daughter Ella, 9-year-old son Duke and 13-year-old son Drake. And now they have added one more son into the mix. Chip Gaines tweeted the news of the most recent arrival on Saturday, writing, "And then there were 5.. The Gaines crew is now 1 stronger! 10 beautiful toes and 10 beautiful fingers all accounted for, and big momma is doing great! #blessedbeyondbelief." Which was so sweet, minus all that big momma talk that no woman who has recently given birth ever wants to hear. Let’s go ahead and assume that good old Chipper Gaines was just a bit tired or something, shall we?

Fans and friends have been sending messages of congratulations to Chip Gaines ever since they found out the baby had arrived, along with requests to get the name of the new baby. Since Chip and Joanna revealed they were expecting a boy back in March, according to Page Six, we know the name will most likely start with a "D." Unfortunately, no details yet on the baby’s name, weight, or details of how Joanna came through the birth, other than the fact that both are healthy.

Joanna Gaines admitted to People back in May that when she initially realized she was pregnant for the fifth time, it came as a total shock to her:

I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, ‘Wow, this isn’t me.’ Then all of a sudden I realized, ‘Hey, I remember this.’ When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped. Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, ‘We’re pregnant!’ He was so excited. We’re both just so excited.

She might have been surprised, but the designer and cookbook author has been open about how much she has enjoyed being pregnant at 40. Like the time she shared a picture of herself eating donuts on Instagram with the caption, "This is 40. And I like it… #pregnantandforty #anddoughnuts"

Actually, Joanna Gaines really took pregnancy cravings to a whole new level that one simply cannot help but admire. Beyond having a seriously deep affinity for Fruity Pebbles, she also shared an amazing fast food run that I think I might like to try, pregnant or not, with People:

I even went to four different fast-food places to get four of my favorite things. Fries from one place, chicken tenders from another, soft drink from another place because I love their ice and custard from another. I have no regrets. It was a good night.

I’m going to miss pregnant Joanna Gaines, if only for the excellent junk food tips alone. I suppose I shall content myself with the idea of her spending the summer with her baby at the family farmhouse in Waco, Texas. Probably sipping homemade lemonade and rocking her baby on the porch in a swing Chip built for her specifically. It’s not a bad picture, to be honest.

Who Plays Maisie Lockwood In ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’? Isabella Sermon Is Ready To Rumble

By now you’ve probably seen the latest action film to take over the box office, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, right? Well, if you haven’t then you definitely should. Not only does the film star Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, but there’s a newcomer in the sequel that you don’t want to miss. So, who plays Maisie Lockwood in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? You might not have heard the name Isabella Sermon before, but you definitely will be.

If you’ve been following the Jurassic World intel online or seen the films new trailers, you might recognize Sermon as the little girl who backs up dangerously close to a dinosaur claw that’s reaching out. And while the trailer might have only given fans a glimpse at Sermon’s character, the film tells the whole story. According to SlashFilm.com, Sermon plays Maisie Lockwood, granddaughter of Benjamin Lockwood (played by James Cromwell), one of the movie’s semi-villains. But as for Maisie, she seriously loves dinosaurs, so much so that the trailer makes it obvious she’s been lurking around where she wasn’t supposed to.

But, if you haven’t seen the highly-anticipated sequel to Jurassic World, you’ll just have to wait to see what happens with young Maisie, and whether she ends up fighting alongside Pratt and Howard, or if she’s standing on the other side.

Really, though, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is expected to shatter records at the box office. And while the trailer has still left plenty to the imagination when it comes to the plot, the movie is seriously getting people talking. But, if you’re unsure what to expect from the movie, or young Sermon, then fear not. According to IMDb, "When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event."

So yeah, it’s an action movie, y’all. Jurassic World is no joke, and while Sermon’s Maisie might be young, she definitely seems capable of fighting hard and holding her own against a dinosaur if she needs to. And additionally, according to her IMDb page, it seems as if Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is her debut role. Which, really, isn’t a bad gig to break into Hollywood with, right?

The last installment in the Jurassic World trilogy, which premiered in 2015, grossed $1,670,400,637 total worldwide, according to IMDb. And as the movie’s budget was only an estimated $150,000,000 (OK, maybe "only" isn’t the right word to describe that amount, but still), according to IMDb, it definitely turned a profit. So, it’s a fair assumption that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will do so as well. According to the sequel’s IMDb page, the second movie’s budget was $170,000,000, so hopefully the film will see that same turn in profits, as they spent a little more this time around.

And honestly, Sermon deserves the payday that she’ll get from the second Jurassic World movie. In addition to putting up with her grandfather’s antics with dinosaurs, Sermon’s Lockwood also has a frightening encounter with a dinosaur as she’s trying to sleep. According to Metro, there’s one scene with Sermon in which a dinosaur’s claw is seen slowly reaching towards the youngster in bed, as she lays petrified with fear.

Sermon’s acting skills certainly seem to be top-notch, and even though this is her first major motion picture role, it’s clear that the kid’s got talent. So, again, if you haven’t seen Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, you should seriously get on it. Young Maisie Lockwood is a total warrior, and along with Owen and Claire, she’ll be serving some serious talent, y’all.

Should You See ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ In IMAX? Here’s What You Need To Know Before Heading To The Theater

Going to see movies in theaters is such a fun experience, especially when that movie you’re seeing is from the beloved ’90s movie franchise, Jurassic Park. The latest installment hits theaters this Friday and because the visuals are expected to be wild, you might be wondering if you should splurge to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in IMAX or if you should opt to see the film in a standard screening.

It boils down to the kind of experience you want out of the film. But whatever you decide, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is guaranteed to be a thrilling adventure, whether you see it in IMAX, 3-D, or standard definition. This film picks up four years after the last film left off, according to Entertainment Weekly, and things aren’t looking so good. The Jurassic World is in ruins and being threatened by a dormant volcano, according to Entertainment Weekly, which means the dinosaurs are "now roaming free." Sounds a little scary to me, but thrilling nonetheless.

If current reviews for the movie make it sound like it is going to be an adventure, the IMAX poster accomplishes that same exact thing. In the IMAX exclusive poster, released last month, according to Collider, it shows one of the dinosaurs from the park holding on to a helicopter and looking to devour a human as a tasty snack. Terrifying.

Watching the movie in IMAX won’t change the contents of what is in the film, so your kids are easily spooked, then you might want to sit this sequel out until they’re a bit older. But, for every theme park lover and thrill-seeker alike, the IMAX version of Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom seems right for them.

The description of the film in IMAX, according to Collider, sounds like it needs to be experienced by the right kind of person, especially since those in the audience will "feel every roar" when they see it in IMAX. Not only this, but the picture will be clearer, according to Collider, in addition to the sound being a little bit more powerful than it is in a standard screening, which will "create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they’re in the movie." Needless to say, seeing the movie in IMAX probably isn’t recommended for those who are afraid of the dark or don’t enjoy a good scare here and there.

As such, it might not be great for children who are sensitive to sound and frights to see in IMAX either. Common Sense Media, a website dedicated to helping parents pick the right movies to watch with their kids, has declared the Jurassic World series to be "scarier and more intense than the original movies," which is not so great for the little ones but seems perfect for those "teen adrenaline junkies and up," as Common Sense Media noted.

But that isn’t to say that Jurassic Park and Jurassic World lovers (even if they are young kids) won’t like the movie. The film, according to ScreenRant, "provides the fun and adventure" that people have come to expect and love from the franchise — but the film is also perfect for "casual summer movie goers." Therefore, seeing the movie in IMAX will only heighten this fun and adventure that people want to see from watching the film.

But parents know their children best, so if they think their children can handle a lot of roaring and stomping, then they should go ahead and splurge to see Jurassic World in IMAX. After all, seeing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in IMAX is a lot cheaper than going to an amusement park, but sounds just as thrilling.

Has Caitlyn Jenner Met Khloe Kardashian’s Baby, True Thompson? Here’s Why It Seems Unlikely

After spending months in Cleveland after giving birth to her daughter, True Thompson, on April 12, Khloé Kardashian is officially back in Los Angeles with her family and friends, with her baby girl in tow, of course. Some Kardashians have already gotten the chance to meet the family’s newest member — like mom Kris Jenner and sisters Kim and Kourtney Kardashian as well as Kylie Jenner — but what about Khloé’s stepdad, Caitlyn Jenner? Has Caitlyn Jenner met Khloe’s daughter, True Thompson yet? Given their tumultuous relationship in recent years, it seems unlikely and here’s why.

In February 2018, Khloé appeared on the U.K. show Lorraine where she answered questions about her plans for baby True and Jenner, according to ELLE. When interviewer Ross King asked if the new baby could be cementing for their relationship again, she replied firmly, “No," according to ELLE. Khloé continued, "I don’t think that affects anything with Caitlyn. No, yeah, [things are] just as they are."

Of course, it’s possible that Khloé has changed her mind since giving birth and hasn’t felt the need to fill in her fans. But anyone who’s watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians knows that Khloé is a notoriously determined person; she makes decisions and sticks by her convictions. And there is a lot of water under the bridge between Khloe and Jenner, according to Cosmopolitan, all starting about three years ago.

Things began to get icy with between Khloé and Jenner following her 2015 interview with Vanity Fair, during which she revealed her transition in. Khloé took issue with some of Jenner’s comments about her ex-wife, Kris Jenner, as reported by Cosmopolitan. Later that year, Khloé told Ellen DeGeneres on her show that she was hurt that she found about Jenner’s transition on camera, rather than face-to-face, according to the Daily Mail. Khloé got more explicit about her anger on the Howard Stern Show in January 2016, which prompted an angry response from Jenner. Things have continued to be tense between the two ever since, it seems.

Still, if tabloids are to be believed, it seems like Jenner wants to meet her new granddaughter. Life & Style reported that Jenner had been shopping and has a house full of baby gifts, just in case something were to thaw the ice between the two. Reports have even circulated that Jenner has decided to make an end-run around the new mom. Radar Online reported that Jenner had contacted True’s father, Tristan Thompson, to reinforce how much she’d like to meet and get to know the new baby. A source reportedly told Radar Online that Thompson felt bad for Jenner and apologized for Khloe’s behavior.

Khloé hasn’t made a public statement about Thompson’s alleged cheating scandal, which rocked her family just days before True was born. (Romper’s requests for comment from both their reps regarding the allegations have not yet been returned.) However, she did include him in the one and only Father’s Day message she posted on her Instagram Story. The photo showed Thompson’s hand holding True’s and is simply captioned, “Happy Father’s Day”. Since her return to L.A. the couple has been spotted together several times, according to People. They’ve been going out for meals together and even took in a Dave Chappelle show, so it appears the young family is still very much together

Over the years, the Jenner and Khloé have tried to talk things out a few times. As recently as April 2017, KUWTK viewers got another look at one of these meet-ups. Khloé explained, according to ELLE, that she felt she’d never been given time to deal with the loss she felt of her relationship with Bruce Jenner. “For me, you’re all I remember Bruce was. So not having you in my life, it’s a huge blow because I’m like, ‘Okay, my second dad, this guy that I’ve grown up with, that raised me, was taken away from me,’ but no one really let me have that [time to process it].” Later in the year, Jenner appeared on Watch What Happens Live and told Andy Cohen that it had been a long time since she’d spoken to Khloé, according to ELLE. “She doesn’t want to talk to me. She hasn’t talked to me in, like two years.”

So while a new baby may seem like just the right thing to bring a family together, the alleged drama with Thompson that has already surrounded True’s birth may just be too much for Khloé to tackle anything else. Right now, it may just be good for her to be home with baby True and the rest of her family.
